Ola knew he messed up before the words left his mouth.
Something passed through Mary’s eyes as she heard those words and she bit her lower lip oh so tenderly. But just as quickly as it came, it was gone, and the world was no different from the way it was before he opened his stupid mouth.
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
Ola strangled the bile rising in his chest with the softness of Mary’s lips. He was being stupid, he reminded himself.
Everyone knows you never say the L-word to a working girl. Definitely not during working hours.
