We've heard stories of businesses that started with a market opportunity; the dire need to fill a gap. However, for Temitope Akinwale, founder of TeeTidy Cleaning Services, the journey into entrepreneurship started long before the business itself existed.
It all began in childhood, with simple acts of service that would later shape a purpose-driven enterprise committed to creating cleaner, healthier, and more welcoming spaces.
"I am Temitope Akinwale, the face behind TeeTidy Cleaning Services," she says confidently. "TeeTidy is a professional cleaning service dedicated to restoring shine and freshness for residential and commercial spaces. We pride ourselves on delivering spotless, healthy, and refreshing environments for our clients because we believe a clean space brings comfort, productivity, and peace of mind."
Now, here is the thing. That belief is more than a business slogan, it is the philosophy upon which TeeTidy is built.
Growing up, Temitope's mother worked as a school helper. During school holidays, she and her siblings often accompanied her to clean classrooms, arrange furniture, and maintain the school environment. At the time, these responsibilities felt like ordinary chores. Looking back, nevertheless, she recognizes that those experiences planted the seeds of discipline, responsibility, and an enduring appreciation for clean, organized spaces.
"My inspiration began with my mother," she reflects. "My siblings and I would assist her during school holidays with cleaning classrooms and maintaining the school environment. At the time, it seemed like a simple responsibility, but those moments unknowingly shaped my perspective about cleanliness, discipline, and the value of maintaining organized spaces."

What stood out most wasn't the work itself but the transformation it produced. Dusty classrooms became bright learning spaces. Disorganized environments became orderly and inviting. Seeing those changes gave her a sense of fulfillment that remained with her long after childhood.
"I found genuine joy and satisfaction in seeing the transformation that came from our efforts," she recalls. "There was always a deep sense of fulfillment that came with seeing our hard work reflected in the neatness around us."
As she grew older, those childhood experiences evolved into something much deeper. While studying Forest Economics and Governance in the university, Temitope became increasingly interested in environmental sustainability, hygiene, conservation, and the relationship between healthy surroundings and human well-being. Her academic journey broadened her understanding of how clean environments influence not only physical health but also productivity, mental clarity, and quality of life.
"I realized that cleanliness is not just about appearance," she explains. "It contributes significantly to physical health, mental clarity, comfort, and overall well-being."

That realization extended beyond the classroom into everyday life. Environmental responsibility became a personal value rather than an academic concept. Whenever she encountered litter or improper waste disposal, she found herself taking action -- even if it meant picking up discarded items herself.
"Sometimes, I personally pick up improperly disposed items and ensure they are trashed correctly because I strongly believe everyone deserves to live and work in clean spaces."
Before venturing into entrepreneurship, Temitope built a successful career in the banking industry as a customer relationship officer. There, she gained invaluable experience in customer service, communication, conflict resolution, relationship management, and working effectively under pressure. The corporate environment sharpened her professionalism while teaching her the importance of consistency, attention to detail, and delivering exceptional service. Yet despite the stability of banking, she felt drawn toward something more personal and impact-driven.
"Over time, I discovered my passion for creating cleaner, healthier environments and building something more meaningful," she says. "The skills I gained from my professional background have been very valuable in helping me structure and grow the business effectively."
Eventually, passion met purpose, and TeeTidy Cleaning Services was born.
Like many entrepreneurs, however, Temitope's greatest obstacle wasn't competition: it was hesitation.
"I wouldn't say I have fully succeeded yet," she admits honestly. "One thing I am truly proud of is overcoming procrastination and taking the bold step to start the business. Growth only begins when you take action."
That decision marked the beginning of an exciting entrepreneurial journey. Since officially launching in March 2026, TeeTidy has successfully completed several professional cleaning projects for residential and commercial clients, earning positive feedback for its attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
"Every completed project and every satisfied customer gives me confidence that we are building something meaningful," she says. "Although we are still at the early stage of the journey, I strongly believe this is just the beginning."
Building a new business has not been without its challenges. One of the earliest hurdles was earning the trust of prospective clients who were naturally cautious about choosing a relatively unknown brand.
"Many potential customers were still cautious," she explains. "I had to rely heavily on referrals, personal selling, and consistently delivering excellent service to gain credibility."
Operational challenges soon followed. Coordinating manpower, sourcing cleaning materials, transporting equipment, responding to last-minute requests, and maintaining quality standards demanded careful planning and adaptability. Pricing also presented its own lessons, as balancing customer expectations with sustainable profitability required both market research and effective communication.
Rather than allowing these challenges to become setbacks, Temitope treated them as opportunities to improve the business.
"I focused on being proactive, adaptable, and committed to delivering quality service regardless of the circumstances," she says. "Instead of competing solely on price, I emphasized quality, professionalism, and attention to detail."

To improve operational efficiency, she introduced checklists, strengthened planning processes, and became more intentional about logistics before every project. These systems have helped TeeTidy deliver reliable service while positioning the business for sustainable growth.
Looking ahead, Temitope envisions TeeTidy as more than just a cleaning company. Her ambition is to build a trusted brand that promotes healthier living, environmental consciousness, and exceptional customer experiences. "My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to have a mindset of never giving up. Say yes to challenges, but be strategic in handling them. Build trust with your clients and position your brand to be effective and consistent. Therein our success lies."
