Coming to Cinemas on August 29

Just when you though August was wrapping up already, well, we got something for ya...There are exciting movies dropping on the 29th to celebrate the exit. Oya, leggo!

1. ''Red Alert''

First on the list is Austin Faani's "Red Alert". Considered one of the year's most anticipated Nigerian blockbusters, it captures a gripping narrative spiced with danger, betrayal, and raw human emotion. From two power-drunk drug lords, we see how their long-tanding feud reaches a head when the daughter of one is abducted. Like we never knew who stirred the conflict between Tupac and BIG, we aren't in the loop on this too.

 

2. ''The Serpent's Gift''

Next on the list is Kayode Kasum's ''The Serpent's Gift''.Call it an Igbo inheritance trope with a twist and you will be right. Anyway, the story unravels the mystery of the uncertainty of Ijeoma Sylvanus, a woman of elegance, mystery, and quiet strength who has just lost her husband, Nduka Sylvanus, a revered businessman in Eastern Nigeria. As typical of our Igbotic brethren, Ijeoma, the unlikely guardian of his empire, becomes entangled in a brutal war with his knismen, who will do anything to assume ownership of his wealth. 

3. "Legacy Africa"

This movie is a biopic, and an adaptation of a book of same title. Set in both Ghana and London with focus on Africa—a continent with immense potential yet facing serious challenges, it explores the influence of the elderly or older generation on the younger ones by criticizing the corruption among the ruling class and calling youth to action as future leaders of the continent. Call it a political thriller and you won't miss.

4. "Caught Stealing"

According to Lost Rhino Films, the movie tells the story of a burned-out ex-baseball player, Hank Thompson, who unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City who jostle for a bloody treasure hunt while he's forced to navigate this treacherous underworld he never imagined.

5. "The Roses"

Wikipedia says it's a black comedy film but na whitey full am. Based on the 1981 "The War of Roses" novel by Warren Adler, we see a tinderbox of competition and resentments underneath the façade of a picture-perfect couple become ignited when the husband's professional dreams come crashing down.

6. "Param Sandari"

The last on our list is this Indian icing. Romantic yes. Entertaining, yes, as usual. It's the story of two young Indians--southerner and northerner-- who find love unexpectedly. While these two diverse worlds collide "heartwarmingly", their cultural differences spark a hilarious and chaotic romance, full of twists and turns.
