Sokoka Books Calls for Submission of Manuscripts

Brittle Paper repoŕts that Nigerian publishing house Sokoka Books is currently accepting submissions of manuscripts for publication until June 7, 2025.

For 2025, Sokoka Books is particularly interested in stories that showcase African identity, taste, and storytelling, and the romance genre. The publishing house is accepting poetry, children’s stories, and prose manuscripts.

Sokoka books aims to be the leading force in African publishing, championing diverse voices, nurturing creativity, and inspiring a passion for literature, writing, reading and publishing raw talents across the continent and beyond. The name “Sokoka” comes from three Yoruba words that mean to speak, to read, and to write, respectively.

Submissions

One submission per writer. Multiple submissions may result in disqualification.
Submissions should include:
- A one-page synopsis, including all major plot points, spoilers, and the ending.
- A sample of your work, consisting of the first 3 chapters or first 3 stories of your manuscript.

Eligibility

Only Africans, but could be residents anywhere.
By “African”, we mean a person whose nationality is of any African country and/or whose parent (father/mother) are African.
