Tems Wins Big at 67th Grammy Awards

29 year old Tems, our very own artiste, has won another Grammy award for Best African Music Performance after her first in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for featuring on Future's hit Wait For U hence, making her the first Nigerian artiste to win two Grammys. The award was keenly contested by other nominees like Yemi Alade, Burna Boy and Wizkid. Recall that Burna Boy won a Grammy once for Best Global Music Album in 2021 and Wizkid also won one for Best Music Video 

with Beyonce in Brown Skin Girl..

The Love Me Jeje song that became a hit and won her the award was originally Seyi Sodimu's timeless classic that was released in 1999 with the same title. Having sought his consent, she lifted a line, 'Love me jeje, love me tender' together with the title to make the song hers. While receiving the award, she expressed her surprise, thanked her mother for her continual support and also thanked Mr Sodimu for his role in the support and clearing of his original song. Tems has also received various accolades throughout her career, including multiple NAACP Image Awards, a Soul Train Music Award and BET Awards.

Although this category is in it's second year, the buzz it created last year when South Africa's Tyla won the award with her song Water was really funny as many Nigerians felt deeply that Nigerian artistes were deliberately brushed aside and found no justification for her win.
