Ibrahim Chatta: Agba Baller!

Ibraham Chatta is one name one can't but mention when talking about Yoruba actors. Although he featured in Adire (English movie) like many of them do, he thrives more in the Yoruba sphere. And is that a bother? Hell no!!

Ibrahim Chatta is a talented actor who has been in the game even before many of us were born. The 54 year old was born in Kwara state into a large family. As a stubborn child who never prioritised education, he left secondary school half-way through for frivolities. As life went by, he became a bus conductor for commercial vehicles to earn a living before his acting career started at the age of 15. First on stage then the big screen through which he rose to prominence.

Hs first marriage to Olayinka Solomon ended in divorce after allegations of battery and their union resulted in the birth of a son named Malik. After the crash, he married Salamatu Lafiaji, the daughter of Kwara State's former governor. The marriage, too, was short-lived and ended in divorce. Now, he is currently married to Olaide Aishat also known as Lizzy Berry. The couple has a daughter who was born in 2020.

You will agree with me that Ibrahim Chatta isn't just an actor but a fantastic singer who uses his sonorous voice for chants and traditional songs in movies. Professionally, he has churned out many soundtracks, jingles and club bangers like Friday Night, My Money, Boom Boom Boom and Area.

Today, our agba baller---a producer and director---who is currently building a film village that looks ancient outside but modern and exquisite on the inside has won several awards including best actor in a supporting role at the 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), best supporting actor in a Yoruba film (Ifa Iwa) at the 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), best actor of the year, Yoruba, at City People Movies Awards (CPMA) 2019 and was also honoured for his contributions at the 2020 Nigerian Canadian Celebrities Entertainment Awards.  He has also featured in over 100 movies including October 1 Adire,  King of Thieves Oguntade 2022 Ola Gimba 2021 Jankariwo Abigun 2021 President Kuti Apoti Waidi (as Ibrahim Abiodun Chatta) 2020 Body Bag Adebola 2019 Mask Adedire 2019 Die in Silence 2019 Olokiki Oru: The Midnight Sensation Ayero 2018 Oloore Herbalist 2018 Oronro Paul 2017 Sidi Ilujinle Lakunle 2017 Su*cide 2015 Omo University Kapo 2014, etc.
