Ronke Odusanya: A Star Shaped by Talent, Resilience, and Controversy

 

When Ronke Odusanya revealed few days ago that Femi Adebayo had all the opportunity in this world to "bed her" in her formative years in Nollywood but instead maintained a professional relationship, many people praised Femi for his conduct. But who exactly is Ronke Odusanya? 

Ronke Odusanya, famously stands out as a seasoned force in Nollywood, particularly in Yoruba-language films. With over two decades in the industry, her journey is marked by stellar performances, emotional resilience, and the kind of public scrutiny that could shake anyone, yet she remains unshaken.

First in 2014, Ronke’s romance with Fuji legend Wasiu Alabi Pasuma was high-profile. She later revealed that fame's pressures and insecurities led to their amicable breakup. After a while, news swirled again about her purported marriage to Femi Anibaba, a U.S. based man who left his 12-year marriage. Ronke, however, denied ever marrying him but affirmed they were an item. 

In 2019, she had a daughter, Fifehunmi, with Saheed "Jago" Olarenwaju the man she eventually married. Along the line, their relationship crumbled and he requested a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their baby, an action he regretted and apologised for but the deed had been done. It was a never to be forgotten episode that left her financially strained and emotionally bruised. Her resolution to survive against all odds strengthened her emotional ability to weather the storm and rise above gossip. 

Born on May 3, 1979, in Ogun State, Ronke had a disciplined upbringing. After completing her primary and secondary education in Lagos and Akure, she studied Mass Communication at Olabisi Onabanjo University—foreshadowing her future in media and film. She joined Nollywood in 2000 through Awada Kerikeri Theatre, mentored by Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello). Her breakout came with the film "Folake" (2006), which earned her the nickname Flakky Ididowo due to her sultry, memorable role.

Over time, she featured in many more notable films including: "Jenifa" (2008), "Astray" (Isina) (2016), "Introducing The Kujus" (2020), "Alakada: Bad and Boujee" (2024), etc. and her performance caliber has earned her multiple nominations: Best of Nollywood Awards (2011, 2013, 2017) and Best Actress in a Leading Role (Yoruba) for "Ajoji Godogodo" at 2022 AMVCA.
