"Broda Amos" and Religious Fanaticisms in Nigeria

Fanaticism isn't alien to us in this part of the world. Even though many don't call it the exact thing, we see it manifest through comedic and absurd religious practices, rivalries, riots and senseless killings---especially those accused of blasphemy. The worst part is that these killers hardly get arrested by our "clueless" government and the previous ones we've had.

"Broda Amos", a Philm Republic eponymous web series featuring Perovee, Martins Osigbere and Joy Alexander, is a typicality. Here, we see Broda Amos' aggressive pursuit of soul winning through condemnation and coercion of everyone around him into living uprightly while ignoring his own inadequacies, culminating a very hypocrital behaviour Jesus frowns at by using the log of wood and speck of dust metaphor in Matt 7:3-5. Eventually, his greed becomes his undoing when he falls for a cheap scam orchestrated by his younger brother.

Considering how Philm Republic may have it planned as a story of multiple seasons and episodes, this introductory episode does give the vibes of a monolithic story, running on a monolithic theme that can't survive multiple episodes let alone seasons except in the lane of anticlimax anyways. That notwithstanding, the efforts of the director and actors are commendable. Click here to watch.
