Drama Trails the 17th Edition of Headies Awards

The 17th edition of Headies Awards (our supposed Grammys) may have come and gone but the reactions trailing some of the dramatic moments of the star-studded event held òn Sunday the 27th at Landmark Event Centre in Lagos may not end anytime soon.

First on the list is Peller's emotive reaction to the cancellation of the arrangement he had with the organisers to live stream the event. He said plans looked solid initially until they trumped up conditions he couldn't meet hours to the event after promoting it using his resources, influence and platform. 

Next is Shallipopi's outburst. The rising star couldn't contain his embarrassment after being called to stage as the winner of a rap category he didn't belong only to be offered a handshake instead because the organisers ran out of plaques in the middĺe of the event. He, however, swore never to attend or honour their invitation again.

The third is Annie's jibe at ex-husband, Tuface Idibia. While co-presenting the award for Best Afrobeat Singer of the Year alongside Farooq Oreagba, popularly celebrated as the “King of Steeze” from the 2024 Ojude Oba festival, Annie jocularly introduced herself as "Annie Idi..." before stopping to say, "Oh, sorry...Annie Macaulay ". Apart from making light the situation, she has also confirmed her divorce from the music star.

The next one is Odumodubl^k's refusal to leave the stage with his mother and 10 other men after his microphone was put off during his acceptance speech for the next rated award keenly contested by Shallipopi, Nasboi, Qing Madi, and Ayo Maff.

The most embarrassing is Cubana Chief Priest's access denial. Being a strictly by invitation event, Pascal a.k.a CCP was bounced because he didn't have the invitation card that would have granted him access. Rather than leave quietly, the video making rounds show that he argued with the bouncers probably hoping his popularity would save his face. Many have praised the bouncers for doing their job and mocked him instead, including his supposed baby mama that has continued to drag him online because of his refusal for a paternity test.
