Children’s authors are awarded bursary placements at New GLL Literary Foundation in the UK

 

According to the Bookseller, a newly launched GLL Literary Foundation in the UK has released the names of 17 children's authors selected to receive bursary placements.

The organisers hinted that the scheme was open to children’s authors across all genres who already published between one and three books in the past five years. Authors selected were Marcela Ferreira, Alex Falase Koya, Adeola Sokunbi and Alom Shaha. Jesse Kaur, Janelle McCurdey, Sharada Keats and Robert Pearce are also among the recipients, alongside Hannah Moffatt, Rachel Cooke, Bethany Walker and Helen Hancocks, etc.

The Foundation stressed that each author would receive £750 and "in kind" support that included being partnered with a local librarian mentor. The mentor would help deliver events and provide networking opportunities with local booksellers, publishers, literary festivals and schools.

Additionally, authors would also be offered three online training courses covering the topics of brand identity, marketing, and business planning. Rebecca Gediking, head of libraries for GLL, in her speech, said: "We are delighted to welcome such a great and inspiring group of authors to be part of the GLL Literary Foundation. We look forward to bringing together all people locally and nationally to support our authors, encourage reading and champion public libraries."

The GLL Foundation was established in November 2024 to support "up and coming" children’s authors based in Bromley, Dudley, Greenwich, Lincolnshire and Wandsworth – areas in the UK where GLL operates public libraries under its "Better" brand.
