Asake Finally Launches Own Label
Don Jazzy once said that as a music promoter and label owner, one thing he learned the hard way early on was knowing that a time would come when an artiste would desire to be in total control of his career. However painful as this sounds, it's reality.
On the expiration of Ahmed Ololade's (a.k.a Asake) two-year sign up at YBNL in late 2024, he walked out of an extention which may have been a little relaxed because of the speed at which he rose to the global stage unlike what many think. Other than unfollowing Olamide and YBNL on Instagram to indicate the end of an era, both parties kept mum without publicly addressing the issue.
Fast-forward to February 2, 2025, Asake unceremoniously released a single, Military, where he replied his critics about his choice of language in his songs. He hinted the beginning of a new 'wera' like he said at the Grammys and gave a shout out to his former label boss, Olamide Badoo, idan. Days after, he launched his record label, Giran Republic with an official single, Why Love, that has about 1.5 million views already on Youtube in less than 48 hours, fiinally putting to rest speculations of what next.
Now that Asake is in a new 'wera', a very ingenious morphological output to mean I wear and do what I like, we wish him well.
